The best grinder for the De’Longhi Dedica
By Iris Calder · Updated · What changed
The Dedica in our data is the De’Longhi Dedica Duo (EC890). Whole Latte Love lists it with a 51 mm pressurized portafilter and pressurized single and double baskets, and says it takes ground coffee and ESE pods. Other Dedica models are not in our data, so check which baskets yours came with.
Pressurized baskets change the grinder question. The basket sets the pressure, so the shot depends far less on how fine or even the grind is, and pre-ground coffee works. A grinder still lets you use fresh beans, but the main reason to buy a good one is the next machine: in the r/espresso buying threads we sampled, the Dedica shows up mostly as the machine people are upgrading from, and a grinder outlasts it. Our quiz lists the Dedica Duo for comparison but does not recommend it.
Every grinder below is in our data as able to grind for espresso, and is priced within our pairing rule for the Dedica Duo: between 15% and 150% of the machine. Specs come from the makers’ pages unless marked; prices are retailer snapshots. We have not used these grinders ourselves.
Pressurized baskets, and what that means for the grinder
A pressurized (dual-wall) basket regulates the pressure itself. Breville, describing its own dual-wall baskets, says they help the extraction regardless of grind, dose, tamp pressure or freshness, and recommends them for pre-ground coffee. That is why a Dedica makes a drinkable shot from pre-ground coffee, and also why an expensive grinder adds little while you stay on those baskets.
If you later move to a machine with non-pressurized baskets, the grinder becomes the most important part. The community-run Espresso Aficionados guide says no grinder under $100 new grinds fine or consistently enough for unpressurized baskets, and that capable espresso grinders have micro-steps or stepless adjustment. Every pick below meets that bar, so it will move with you.

Lowest cost, and ready for your next machine
-
The lowest-priced espresso-capable grinder in our data: 48 mm conical burrs and 16 µm per click, per KINGrinder. More grinder than the Dedica’s baskets need, which is the point if you plan to upgrade. The US price is from Amazon (sold by KINGrinder).
Electric, about $200, also for filter
-
40 mm conical burrs and 40 steps, per Baratza: 1–20 are finer micro-steps for espresso, 21–40 for filter. A hopper grinder, so it is quick for several drinks a day.
-
Stepless, with 48 mm conical steel burrs, sold as an all-purpose grinder. Of the grinders our pairing rule allows with the Dedica Duo, our scoring ranks it second.
If you will upgrade the machine soon
-
Espresso-focused, with 8 µm per click and 48 mm burrs, per 1Zpresso. Our scoring ranks it first with the Dedica Duo, and it is the grinder our quiz pairs with the Breville Bambino at $500.
-
54 mm flat burrs, stepless and single-dose, per Turin. An electric that suits a better machine later.

Questions
Do I need a grinder for a De’Longhi Dedica at all?
Not to make a shot. Whole Latte Love lists the Dedica Duo with pressurized baskets that take ground coffee and ESE pods. A grinder lets you use fresh beans, and a good one is worth buying if you expect to move to a machine with non-pressurized baskets.
Is a $300 grinder too much for a Dedica?
For the stock pressurized baskets, it is more than they need. Our pairing rule allows grinders up to 150% of the machine’s price, about $375 for the Dedica Duo. If you are spending that much, it may be time to look at the machine too: see our espresso machine and grinder under $500 guide.
Hand or electric grinder for a Dedica?
Either works. A hand grinder such as the KINGrinder K6 costs the least and still suits your next machine. An electric grinder such as the Baratza Encore ESP is quicker for several drinks a day and also grinds for filter.
Does this apply to other Dedica models?
We only track the Dedica Duo (EC890). The grinder advice holds for any machine with pressurized baskets, but check which baskets your Dedica came with before you buy.
