From our written rules
How our pairing rules treat it
The quiz pairs every machine with grinders by the same rule: the grinder has to be made for espresso and cost between 15% and 1.5× the machine. All the rules.
Grinder
Not paired
Its stock baskets are pressurized (dual-wall), so the grinder band does not apply. Why.
How it maps to quiz answers
Shown for reference only; the quiz skips reference models.
- Drinks
- Mostly straight shots
- A bit of both
Not for “Mostly milk drinks”: Its steaming is too modest for a milk-drink habit.
- Counter
- Small counter
- Some room
- Plenty of space
- Workflow
- Happy to learn the basics
- I enjoy dialing in
- I want to tinker
Not for “Push a button”: It needs a separate grinder and hands-on technique; you asked for minimal fuss.
Budget combos it appears in
We ran the quiz 36 times: at each budget ($500, $1,000, $1,500, $2,500, $4,000, or $7,000) with 6 typical sets of answers.
The De'Longhi Dedica Duo is a reference model, so it never appears in a recommended setup.
Grinder
Its baskets are pressurized (dual-wall), so it is designed for pre-ground coffee, and we don’t pair it with a grinder here. A good grinder only pays off if you add an aftermarket non-pressurized 51 mm basket. Kaffeemacher sells single-wall 51 mm baskets it lists for the Dedica EC890, and says its 20 mm-high version fits the original portafilter. 51 mm parts don’t all fit each other’s machines, so check that the listing names your model. Our Dedica grinder guide covers grinders worth buying if you plan to make that switch.
Sources: Whole Latte Love: De’Longhi Dedica Duo listing (51 mm pressurized portafilter and baskets); Kaffeemacher: 51 mm single-wall filter baskets for the Dedica (EC685, EC785, EC885, EC890).
