The picks below come from the same written rules as our quiz, run with fixed answers for each scenario. Each one fits under $1,500 with the grinder included.

Questions

Is $1,500 worth it over $1,000?

Usually, yes, if the extra money goes to temperature control (a PID) and a better grinder. Those two upgrades make shots more repeatable, which matters more day to day than steam power or looks.

Single boiler or something bigger at this budget?

At $1,500 with a good grinder, most picks are single boilers. They brew beautifully but make you wait between brewing and steaming. If you make several milk drinks back to back, consider stretching toward a heat exchanger or dual boiler.

Should I buy the grinder first?

If you are building a setup over time, a good grinder is the part you keep longest. A strong grinder makes even a modest machine taste better; the reverse is rarely true.
